I have been a nurse-midwife for 30 years .I was born in Ohio and received my BSN in nursing at Bowling Green
University of Ohio. As student, I loved working with mothers and babies.
So, I decided to become a midwife. After my training, I worked in the Mississippi
Delta caring for desperately poor rural farmworkers. I came to Atlanta
in 1979 to work in the first in-hospital Birthing
Center. This was a wonderful place that let women make decision in the
own healthcare. Most women that came there wanted an un-medicated birth experience with
a midwife. After many years of catching babies, I was ready for a
big change and a new adventure so I moved to Costa Rica. In Costa Rica I
did many things. First, I studied Spanish. I than completed nursing
school at the University of Costa Rica. I then worked as a occupational health
nurse at Intel and as a medical assistant and safety coordinator in the
Peace Corps .I also volunteered for rural medical clinics and was a
consultant to lay midwives in rural Costa Rica. I also attended a
few home births. I have loved living in and working in Latin
America. I am excited about working at CIMA because I can
continue with my Latin American 'connection" and have a wonderful experience
working in a cultural diverse practice. It is an honor to work with such
wonderful women.
I live in Chamblee with my 3 cats. My family is in Ohio and Costa Rica
and I try to spend as much time as I can when not delivering babies. My interest include travel, photography, and scuba diving. I have traveled
thru all countries in Central America and Peru. I love learning from
women of different cultures because they have so many things to teach me.
